Traveling to Bangkok for the first time? Whether you are visiting the Thai capital one-day or more, there are some things that you must include in your itinerary.
Bangkok is an incredible city, it holds so many attractions for all types of travelers, and no matter what bracket you fit into, you cannot claim that you have been in this city without experiencing these unique attractions.
Now, let’s get started with the 5 things you must do in Bangkok.
Visit the temples
Bangkok is full of beautiful and colorful temples where you can enjoy a moment of serenity and take a closer look at the meticulous detail of the architecture and sculpture. You can visit as much as temples you want but make sure to include at least one of the most popular ones: Wat Arun, The Grand Palace, and Wat Pho. You can also combine the three of them as they are close to each other.
Tips: to get the best of your visit and avoid the crowds, go to the temples early in the morning.
Transport: we caught an express boat at the Chao Phraya river that cost us 80THB/pax (roundtrip ticket)
Dress code: barefoot. Shoulders and knees need to be covered.
Entrance fee:
Wat Arun: THB 50
The Grand Palace: THB 500
Wat Pho: THB 200
Open hours:
Wat Arun: 8.30 a.m – 5.30 p.m
The Grand Palace: 8.30 a.m – 3.30 p.m
Wat Pho: 8.30 a.m – 6.00 p.m
Soak up a bird’s eye-view of the city
One of the most fascinating things about Bangkok is the difference between how the city feels from the ground and the perspective from high above. Bangkok is full of tall buildings, and some of the buildings feature rooftops where you can get a bird’s eye view and see the city in a whole new way. We went to the Moon Bar, and it was one of our most memorable moments in Bangkok. The rooftop is located on the 61st floor and offers a trendy atmosphere. Go there before the sun goes down to watch the sunset, and stay until it gets dark to enjoy the dazzling urban lights.
Dress code: avoid wearing shorts, flip flops, and athletic attire.
Drinking prices: expect to pay around THB 700 for a cocktail.
Open hours: 5.00 p.m. – 1.00 p.m
Enjoy the glowing colors of sunset
Speaking of sunset, it’s often said that pollution enhances sunsets. The pollution in Bangkok is so bad and the sky is often saturated. As a result, the sunset is peachier and the transition from day to night is brighter. Find a spot where you can watch the sunset and enjoy the spectacular and vibrant colors stretching out across the sky.
Experience the nightlife
When it comes to partying, Bangkok is the place to be! The Thai capital is an incredible city with so much going on from dusk till dawn. After a day of sightseeing, head to one of the most famous party streets or red light districts such as Khaosan Road, Soi Cowboy or Nana Plaza, and experience the wild and crazy nightlife. I personally don’t enjoy being in this kind of places, but either you love it or hate it, this experience is not to be missed when traveling in Bangkok.
Try Thai street food
I have to admit, I am not a big fan of Thai food, let alone how it smells, but a thrilling adventure in Bangkok is not complete without sampling street food. While crispy pancake is my favorite Thai street food, there are plenty of other treats to try. From fried chicken to fried banana, sweet potato balls, fried noodles, and BBQ Skewers, the street food in Bangkok is perfect for a savory midday snack or a tasty dessert on a night out.
