Sometimes, a weekend getaway is all we need to break the routine and clear our heads. If you are looking for the perfect winter city break and a place where you can immerse yourself in a charming and medieval atmosphere, then Riga is the right city to visit. Spot the main sights
As with most cities, many of the known sights and landmarks are found in and around the city center. A slow walk in the old city will immerse you in a warm atmosphere of history. The narrow cobblestone alleys and the medieval architecture will make you feel like traveling in time.
Some of the things you should not miss here include:
● The freedom monument: erected in 1935, the freedom monument is an important symbol of the independence and freedom of Latvia.
● House of Blackheads: Of course, the house of blackheads is THE monument you have to see when you visit Riga. This building has one of the most stunning facades in the city.
● The three brothers: a building complex consisting of three houses. The white house dates back to the 15th century, the yellow house is from the 16th century and the
● St Peter’s church: don’t miss the 360° panoramic view from the tower of the church.
● Dome Square: The largest square in the old town. It’s a charming space filled with restaurants, bars, and cafés, located right in the middle of the city
● The central Market: take a walk and observe the local’s daily life in the central Market, situated a few meters from the old town, and close to Riga’s main train and bus stations.
● The park: located right next to the freedom monument, this green area is the perfect place to relax and recharge your energy.
As you continue walking, you arrive at the Art nouveau district, also known as the Quiet Center. Here you will be amazed by the vast amount of buildings from the early 1900s. Walk along the Albert Street and Elizabeth Street, and look at the magnificent facades.
Also, don’t forget to visit the Nativity of Christ Cathedral, the largest Orthodox Church in Riga.

From antique furniture, brick walls, and secret book door, to gold ornaments and chandeliers, herb jars, and dark brown bottles, as well as the beautiful waitresses dressed in red medieval gowns, all elements are there to make this place look straight out of fairy tales.
