I have always lived within walking distance to the beach, meaning that I’ve never felt the need to go to further beaches. This summer was a bit special, as my husband and I decided to explore the entire coast. As you might know, Malta has a rocky coastline, but obviously, it features some nice sandy beaches.
So if you are looking for a beach where you can enjoy the sand between your toes, here are 5 stretches of sand for you.
Paradise Bay
Paradise Bay is a small sandy beach in Malta with crystal clear water. It’s close to Cirkawwa ferry terminal, where the ferries to Gozo and Comino depart. The view could have been pleasant; unfortunately, it’s spoiled by an ugly building in the opposite bay.
This small cove has a nice restaurant and a modest amount of reasonably priced umbrellas and deckchairs. The water here is always calm due to the surrounding cliffs.
To make the most of your visit to Paradise bay, I highly recommend you to take a stroll along the cliff. This place offers an unbeatable view of the crystalline Mediterranean Sea.

Meliha Bay
Meliha beach, also known as Ghadira Bay, is the largest sandy beach in Malta and the water is only a couple of cm deep (if you are not a good swimmer, this beach is perfect for you) There are a number of restaurants at the beach, meaning that it’s possible to spend the entire day here without having to bring your own food. The only downside to visiting the most popular of Malta’s beaches is that, by definition, it attracts the crowds.
Armier Bay and little Armier
Other Sandy beaches in Malta are Armier and Little Armier. Found exactly halfway between Ghadira Bay and Paradise Bay, these two beaches are located right next to each other and are often less well known among tourists. It can be a little tricky to reach if you go by bus but are worth the effort if you want to enjoy a day at a sandy beach. Armier Bay and little Armier offer a wide range of umbrellas, deckchairs and watersport options, and the sea is generally safe for swimming, although water shoes might be essential, as the rocks in the water can be a bit sharp.

Ain Tufieha
My absolute favorite beach! I like to go early to enjoy a quiet moment at the beach. People start arriving around 9:30 am, so if you want to have the place to yourself for a moment, your only real option is to wake up early. Ain Tufieha is tucked away between the cliffs and the access is not obvious, but you just need to follow the path. The beach is well equipped with a restaurant, umbrellas and watersports rentals.
Golden Bay
Located towards the northwest coast and just right next to Ain Tuffieha, Golden Bay features the same golden sand as its quieter neighbor Ain Tufieha. Popular both with tourists and locals, the beach is well-equipped with some restaurants and bars. It can get a bit busy in summer, but with good reason; it’s a great stretch of beach for hanging out with friends. Golden bay is also a popular location for BBQ. Go there later in the day to enjoy the spectacular sunset.
